How StockPulse Works
StockPulse is an intelligent stock monitor that identifies high-potential, low-float NASDAQ movers during the most critical windows of the trading day — and delivers real-time alerts so you can act before the crowd.
The Big Picture
StockPulse closely monitors the pre-market session, the full regular trading day, and the after-hours session — the windows where the biggest price moves are set in motion. During these windows, StockPulse continuously pulls live price, float, volume, and news data from different sources, then filters for stocks that meet a strict set of criteria before any alert is ever created.
When a qualifying stock is found, an in-app alert instantly appears on your Alerts page with full details — ticker, price, catalyst news, float size, volume, and spike history — and a push notification is sent directly to your device so you're notified the moment it's found, even when the app isn't open.
In parallel, StockPulse continuously ingests the latest financial news from multiple sources, building a live database of market-moving stories that powers both automated alerts and your own custom scans.
If StockPulse is installed on your home screen, your app icon badge updates with the number of unread alerts and you'll receive push notifications the moment something is found — without ever opening the app.
Live News Engine
Every alert requires a real news catalyst — StockPulse never surfaces a price mover without a reason behind it. To power this, StockPulse runs a layered news engine that pulls headlines from different sources: official company wire announcements, regulatory filings, and financial news feeds. When traditional coverage is thin — as it often is for fast-moving micro-caps — an AI-powered live web search steps in to find the story driving the move, so even the smallest tickers get a verified catalyst.
Each article is automatically deduplicated, filtered for relevance to the specific stock ticker, and stored in a searchable database. Generic legal press releases, analyst price target updates, and boilerplate market recaps are automatically excluded — only genuine catalyst news makes it in.
You can search this database directly from the News page by typing any ticker symbol to pull up recent headlines and full market data for that stock.
Pre-Market Alert Criteria
All criteria must be met simultaneously
NASDAQ Listed Only
NYSE, AMEX, and OTC stocks are excluded. NASDAQ stocks only.
Low Float
Only stocks with a limited number of shares in circulation qualify — low float amplifies price moves on high volume.
10%+ Pre-Market Gain
The stock must be trading up at least 10% from the previous day's closing price during pre-market hours — verified with a live price print, never an estimate.
Volume Surge
Pre-market volume must be running well above the stock's recent average — confirming real buying pressure, not a thin-float blip.
Real News Catalyst
A relevant, fresh news catalyst must exist to explain the move — StockPulse verifies this before firing any alert.
Real Companies Only
ETFs, funds, and other non-company securities are automatically rejected — only actual operating companies make the cut.
Live Upward Momentum
Before an alert fires, StockPulse checks the stock's minute-by-minute trading prints over the last 2 minutes — the price must be genuinely higher than where it started that window. Flat or fading stocks are rejected, so you don't get alerted on a spike that's already rolling over.
No Duplicate Alerts
If a ticker was already alerted today, it's automatically skipped to keep your feed clean and noise-free.
Market Open Alert Criteria
Runs throughout the entire regular trading session
NASDAQ Listed Only
Same exchange restriction as the pre-market scan.
Low Float
Float size is checked and filtered to surface only stocks with limited shares in circulation.
Significant Intraday Gain
The stock must be showing a meaningful percentage gain from the previous day's official close during live trading — verified with a live price print.
Recent News Catalyst
A relevant, recently published news catalyst must be present to confirm there's a reason behind the move.
Strong Volume Surge
Trading volume must be surging well above the stock's recent average — confirming real buying interest, not just a thin-float price blip.
Real Companies Only
ETFs, funds, and other non-company securities are automatically filtered out.
Live Upward Momentum
The same 2-minute momentum check as the pre-market scan: the stock's live minute prints must show it trading up across the window before any alert is created.
Spike History
Stocks with a documented history of large single-day moves are flagged so you know whether this ticker has proven it can run.
After-Hours Alert Criteria
Runs at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 PM ET, Mon–Fri
After the closing bell, StockPulse keeps scanning the after-hours session — the window where earnings releases, FDA decisions, buyouts, and contract wins hit the wire and set up the next morning's runners. It uses the same strict setup as the market-open scan, with one difference: because after-hours volume is naturally thin, the volume-surge filter is not applied.
NASDAQ Listed Only
Same exchange restriction as the pre-market and market-open scans — real operating companies only, no ETFs or funds.
Low Float
Only stocks with a limited number of shares in circulation qualify.
10%+ Gain, Live Verified
The stock must be trading up at least 10% from the day's official close, confirmed with a live last-trade print and still moving up over the last minutes.
Perfect 5-Point News Catalyst
This is the strictest filter in the app: an after-hours alert only fires when the news catalyst scores the full 5 points — a buyout, merger, FDA approval, major contract, product launch, or a strong earnings beat. Weaker news is rejected outright.
Same Layered News Engine
News is sourced in the same order as the market-open scan: the live news database, then wire services and regulatory filings, with the AI web search used only as the very last check.
No Duplicate Alerts
Each ticker can only fire one after-hours alert per day, no matter how many of the four scan runs it appears in.
Next-morning follow-up: the morning after an after-hours alert, StockPulse re-checks the stock in pre-market. If it's trading above the previous close, you get a fresh alert carrying the same catalyst news, marked "Still spiking since the after-hours alert" — so you know the move held overnight.
The 10-Point Alert Score
Every automated alert carries an Alert Score out of 10, shown at the bottom of the alert card. It's a quick read on how strong the setup is: the higher the score, the more of the ideal conditions are lining up at once. The score is built from four independent factors.
News Catalyst — up to 5 points
5 points for a strong catalyst: buyout, merger, FDA approval or clearance, major contract or partnership win, product launch, clinical success, or a clear earnings/revenue beat. 3 points for real company-specific news that isn't a heavyweight catalyst. 1 point for weaker news such as offerings, compliance notices, executive appointments, or generic coverage.
Float — up to 2 points
2 points for a float under 1 million shares, 1 point for 1–3 million, 0 above 3 million. The smaller the float, the harder a move can run.
Momentum — up to 2 points
2 points when the stock has been trading up for 10 minutes or more, 1 point when it's been up for the past 5–10 minutes, 0 when the move is brand new or already fading. Momentum is only measurable while the market is trading.
Volume — 1 point
1 point when today's volume is at least double the stock's 5-day average — confirming that real money, not a thin-float blip, is behind the move.
Rebound Monitor
Once StockPulse fires an alert on a stock, the Rebound Monitor keeps watching it for its next big leg up. It checks today's alerted tickers every 5 minutes throughout pre-market and the regular session — and if a stock has run up another 20% or more from the price of its last alert, a new rebound alert is generated.
Each rebound alert becomes the new baseline, so the same stock can fire again only after a genuine additional 20% move — no cooldowns, no duplicate noise. The alert appears on your Alerts page alongside the others and a push notification is sent to your device so you never miss a follow-on runner.
Rebound alerts surface stocks that are already on the move again — letting you ride the second wave of a confirmed runner rather than chasing the initial spike.
Alerts & Watching
Every qualifying stock is saved as an alert on the Alerts page. Each alert includes:
- Ticker symbol and company name
- Live price and % gain from previous close
- Float size and market cap
- News headline and catalyst summary with source and timestamp
- Volume data and historical spike record
- Previous closing price for reference
Watch any alert, scanner result or gainer and choose exactly what you want to be notified about. Watched stocks are monitored continuously throughout pre-market and the trading day, and when your criteria are met you get both an in-app alert and a push notification.
Target Share Price
Enter a price and you're notified the moment the stock reaches it — whether it climbs up into that price or falls down to it.
Or a % Spike / Dip
Instead of a price, choose a percentage move and a direction — Spike, Dip, or Either. After each notification the notified price becomes your new baseline, so every additional move of that size fires a fresh alert with no daily limit.
9 EMA vs 20 EMA
Optionally require the 9 EMA to be above or below the 20 EMA at the moment your trigger fires — a quick confirmation of short-term trend.
Price vs VWAP
Optionally require the price to be above or below VWAP, the session's volume-weighted average price.
Momentum — Direction + Duration
Optionally require momentum Up or Down, and for how long. Enter a number of minutes to require the move held across that whole window, or leave it blank for momentum right now — less than a minute.
Volume Surge
Optionally require today's volume to be a chosen percentage above the stock's 5-day average volume — the same dropdown options as the Custom Scanner (10% through 200%).
News Required
Optionally require a recent news article for that ticker in the live news database before any notification is sent.
Filters Are Optional
Every filter set to 'Either' (or News set to No) is simply skipped — so you can keep it as simple as a single price alert, or stack all of them for a precise setup.
Alerts are categorized as New, Watching, or Dismissed so you always know what needs your attention.
Custom Scanner
The Scanner page lets you run on-demand scans on your own terms — any stock or ETF, on any exchange, is eligible. You control every filter:
Float Size
Filter for micro-float stocks under 1M, 5M, 10M, 50M shares — or leave open to scan all floats.
Market Cap
Cap the market cap at $10M, $50M, $100M, $500M, $1B — or no limit for the full market.
Minimum % Spike
Set a minimum gain threshold — e.g. only show stocks up 10%, 20%, 50%, or more. Leave it blank to surface quieter movers up less than 10%, or enter 0 to flip the scan and hunt for dipping stocks trading in the red.
Volume Surge
Require current volume to be 50%, 100%, 200%, or 500% above the recent average.
News Requirement
Require a specific news catalyst, exclude stocks with news, or scan all movers regardless.
Momentum — Direction + Duration
Pick a direction (Up or Down) and how long it must have held: under 1 minute, any number of minutes from 1 to 9, or 10 or more minutes. 'Up for 5 minutes' only returns stocks whose price has been climbing across that whole window, while 'Down' surfaces stocks currently fading. Leaving the direction on 'Either' skips the check entirely. Because momentum is measured from live minute-by-minute trading prints, this field only works during market hours — outside of them there are no prints to measure and it's ignored.
Spike History
Optionally require or exclude stocks with a documented history of 20%+ single-day moves.
Scanner results are saved for your session. Use the Watch button on any result to add it to your Alerts watchlist.
Live Chart View
Tap any ticker on an alert card to open its chart view — a live, minute-by-minute picture of how the stock is trading right now, built from real trading prints rather than delayed data.
1-Minute Candlesticks
Every minute of the current session drawn as a candle, so you can see exactly where the move started, where it stalled, and where buyers stepped back in.
Volume Bars
Volume for each minute sits directly under the price chart — letting you confirm whether a push is backed by real size or fading on thin trade.
VWAP, 9 EMA & 20 EMA
Three overlays are plotted on the chart: VWAP (the session's volume-weighted average price) plus the 9- and 20-period exponential moving averages — the levels day traders watch for trend and pullback entries.
Momentum Signals
A quick read on whether price is holding above or below VWAP and the EMAs, summarized as bullish, bearish, or neutral so you don't have to interpret the lines yourself.
Zoom & Scroll
Zoom in to inspect a tight window of minutes, zoom back out to the full session, or slide along the timeline to review any part of the day's action.
History Up To 1 Year
Switch the chart range with one tap: Today, 1D, 3D, 7D, 14D, 30D, 90D, 6M or 1Y. Short ranges stay on intraday candles, while the longer ranges roll up into daily candles so you can see the stock's full trend and past runs going back a full year.
Chart data is pulled live each time you open the view — no delayed feeds, no estimated prices.
Today's NASDAQ Movers
The Gainers page gives you a live dashboard of today's biggest NASDAQ movers — updated automatically throughout the trading day. Each entry shows the ticker, company name, live price, percentage move, volume, float size, and market cap so you can spot the action at a glance. Three tabs let you switch views instantly:

Today's Losers
The session's biggest decliners, ranked by percentage drop — useful for spotting oversold names and potential rebound setups.

The most actively traded NASDAQ stocks of the day, ranked by share volume — where the real money is flowing, up or down.
The page refreshes every 5 minutes during pre-market and every 15 minutes during regular market hours, then goes idle after 8 PM ET to conserve resources. You can also tap the refresh button at any time to pull the latest data instantly.
Every price you see is live and real-time — never delayed or estimated.
Profit Tracker
The Profits page tracks the performance of every automated alert StockPulse has generated. For each alerted stock, it records the price at the time of the alert, monitors how high the price moved afterward, and calculates the potential gain you could have captured.
This gives you a transparent, ongoing record of how well the scanner's alerts are performing — so you can see real results, not just signals.
